Remote, Hybrid, or In-Office – Let Your People Choose

There is still much debate over remote, hybrid, and office workforces. Each has its pros and cons, but every day there seems to be a new article published on why remote work is bad.

We have blanket statements like remote work creates a “decline in sense of mission,” prevents “synergy,” or reduces the amount of important “life lessons” individuals experience. We have better arguments that remote work leads to data leaks, and misconduct; like employees outsourcing work, miscommunication, loneliness, and more.

What we don’t see talked about much is how remote work allows people to spend more time with their family, pets, and friends. How remote work gives us back time to be healthy, get stuff down around the house, travel, pick up a hobby, learn, and much more.

Here is a solution to the modern workplace: let your people choose and be flexible to the wants and needs of the individual.

If there happens to be a decline in morale or employees outsourcing the work, rather than blame remote work, ask the question why.

Figure out the source of each issue (the problem might not be remote work), maybe morale is down due to things outside work, maybe employees are outsourcing work because they are overwhelmed or too afraid to ask for help.

Everyone operates at a different frequency. It’s up to us, business leaders and owners, to be ready and have a solution for the individual.
