The Modern Workplace – How to Attract Talent
GenZ is not the only generation responsible for transforming the modern workplace, this has been a fight for many generations. But their voice has been one of the loudest which correspondingly brings about faster change.
As the new generation begins to enter the workforce, employers are starting to understand that they need to change as well. Here is a list of trends & changes we noticed:
- Mission-oriented work – a competitive salary is an eye-catcher, but what is really going to grab attention is the work behind the day-to-day. People want purpose in what we do, we want to accomplish something impactful and important; the journey is worth more than the reward.
- Benefits – medical & dental coverage, 401K, PTO, and bonuses/equity grants are benefits that only cover the basic necessities of the modern workplace. What people are really looking for is remote work, WFH, flextime, and work-from-anywhere policies. Other competitive benefits include; snack/meal allowance, gym/other physical and mental health memberships, extended parental leave, pet insurance, home-office allowance, etc.
- Education – learning never stops, the younger generations understand and appreciate this more because they grew up with continuous streams of updates, innovations, and technological advancements. Having education programs can help attract and retain high-level talent.
- Work from anywhere – we already mentioned this in the benefits bullet above but is worth a second mention due to its popularity and importance in recent years. Remote work policies give time back to the people to spend with family, pets, and friends. Remote work gives us back time to be healthy, get stuff down around the house, travel, pick up a hobby, and much more.
To summarize, the modern workplace has changed drastically. People what to make an impact, feel valued, continue education, and work from anywhere.
